Sri Lanka Coral Reef Initiative

Countries involved: Sri Lanka

Coral Collective Partner:  GFCR

The Sri Lanka Coral Reef Initiative (SLCRI) aims to focus on protection of climate ‘refugia’ coral reefs that have the potential to withstand climate impacts through the scaling of 12 sustainable reef-positive enterprises. SLCRI is expected to increase the resilience of 150,000 coastal community members and nearly 250,000 hectares of marine area, including more than 30,000 hectares of biodiversity-rich coral reefs. The SLCRI programme initiatives are expected to generate a transformational shift in the way coral friendly approaches are adopted and upscaled in Sri Lanka.
